Tips for Preparing your Images

In order to give your work a fair chance in the watercolor Art Prize, it is important to submit clear and well-taken pictures of your works. Here are some tips to help you adequately capture your watercolor painting.

  • If you are using a professional camera, make sure to set it to the highest quality.
  • It is always better to take your painting outside to photograph it because indoor lights can be inadequate. They can create an unpleasant orange or blue color cast.
  • In taking the photograph of your watercolor paintings, it is important to take your artwork dead square and fill the frame as much as possible. Please make sure your painting does not include the frames. In addition to casting shadows on your painting, you may be disqualified from the Watercolor Art Prize. Also, ensure that easel clamps do not appear on your paintings
  • Make sure to turn off any stamp and date on your camera
  • Use the viewfinder of your camera instead of the display screen because this helps prevent the camera from moving and creating a fuzzy picture.
  • Use a tripod stand if necessary.

After taking the photographs of your watercolor paintings, it is better to print your images and see if they are to your satisfaction. If not, try again or get a professional photographer to take pictures of your painting for you.
