Watercolor painting is a challenge for even artists who have been using the medium for a long time. The medium is so unforgiving that any error could destroy a painting. Therefore, all artists who use the medium, exercise due diligence.
In spite of the difficulty posed by watercolor, many artists have taken up the challenge to create beautiful paintings. From landscape paintings, to still life paintings, and figure paintings, watercolor painters have used the medium in a way that brings to the fore amazing watercolor techniques. While some artists paint realistic themes, others create abstract paintings.
Artists like Winslow Homer, John Singer Sergeant, John La Farge, Thomas Moran, and William Trost Richards gave credence to the medium through their artistic career. Other famous artists who used watercolor as a medium of artistic expression throughout the career are Thomas Eakins, George Inness, Maxfield Parrish, Jessie Willcox Smith, Louis C. Tiffany, Childe Hassam, Maurice Prendergast, Charles Demuth, Wassily Kandinsky, Emil Nolde, Paul Klee, Egon Schiele, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Edward Hopper.
